To follow this tutorial I’m assuming that you have installed Wine on your System. In Ubuntu Gutsy: sudo apt-get install wine.

First of all you have to configure your Wine Virtual Desktop with $ winecfg. With this tool you can configure many importants aspects of your Wine Tool. I have configured my Virtual Desktop with a resolution of: 1280×1024 (You can set it to cover your needs). In the Audio tab you can configure Audio Drivers and test it playing test sound. I have configured it with ALSA drivers, but you could user also OSS drivers depending of your Audio Drivers installed on your Linux System. To make a good installation of DirectX on Wine you have to install native mscoree.dll and streamci.ddl in /system32 from a windows Install and set them as native Windows Libraries.
You have to wrap with winecfg many DirectX dlls, so you can add “d3d8″ with winecfg and then with “sudo gedit /home/your_user/.wine/user.reg” add this list of dlls:

Con l’attesissima uscita di “Savage 2 – A Tortured Soul”, la S2Games ha pensato di rilasciare gratuitamente il client per giocare a “Savage: The Battle for Newerth”. Per aumentare il proprio prestigio, la S2Games ha pensato bene di rilasciare anche una versione Linux. Quest’ultima scelta, ha permesso di avvicinare un maggior numero di giocatori, che pur non essendo appassionati al gioco, hanno la possibilità di spingerlo al massimo sfruttando la potenza di una piattaforma Linux.
Savage unisce le caratteristiche di un FPS (First Person Shooter) con le caratteristiche di un gioco strategico. Da giocatore, è possibile scegliere quali compiti eseguire per aiutare la civiltà ad espandersi e sconfiggere il nemico. Savage è un gioco in MultiPlayer che può ospitare fino ad un massimo di 64 giocatori divisi in due Teams: Gli Uomini e Le Bestie. Il tutto è ambientato in uno scenario futuristico, dove le bestie hanno subito un’evoluzione e che, dopo i maltrattamenti subiti hanno deciso di ribellarsi all’uomo. Le due razze inoltre si combattono per la sopravvivenza del proprio popolo in una guerra alimentata dalla poca disponibilità di risorse presenti nel pianeta.
Durante le nostre partite, ci troveremo a poter scegliere le armi o le magie rese disponibili dalle costruzioni della nostra civiltà e avremo la possibilità di aumentare il nostro livello di forza semplicemente svolgendo i compiti assegnati dal nostro comandante.
Nel complessivo il gioco è realizzato molto bene, sia come grafica che come gameplay, anche se non presenta nessun sistema per imparare le tecniche di lotta e le strategie fuori da una partita. Dovremo quindi imparare a muoverci all’interno della battaglia vera e propria!!
