Furniture for the Patio

July 28, 2008

Although the indoors of a home is used much more often than the outdoors, it is equally important that the outdoors, whether it is the yard or patio, give off the same impression as the house itself. This is true as to the aesthetics of the home as well as its functionality. When the weather is pleasant it is great to eat outside and enjoy nature a bit. This is possible when one has the appropriate outdoor furniture. Outdoor furniture can be just as attractive and comfortable as indoor furniture. In fact, it can even be nicer. Teak furniture is especially nice since it is simple yet elegant at the same time.

In addition to that, it is rather easy to maintain and it is comfortable as well. You can pick out one of the many styles of luxurious teak patio furniture from teakwoodpatiofurniture.com. This site has great choice of styles of teak outdoor furniture including teak chairs, tables, and benches.

Yes, I Use Windows Vista!

July 27, 2008

You don’t typically see me writing about Microsoft Windows on this blog or any other Microsoft product for that matter. But while we feel very passionately about Linux, I would like to make a certain point about Microsoft products and their (large) place in the marketplace. It is often easy for us techies to talk about Linux and open source advantages but when you think about it, using these products can be quite difficult for the novice user. And when you are a business user where time and productivity means money, it often pays to get a solution backed by good customer support. It’s no secret to my reader that I myself use a Windows Vista machine at work and wouldn’t replace it thanks to its compatibility at the work environment. So many things can go wrong when using a PC (no matter what operation system you use) and unless you are very tech savvy and have a lot of time on your hands, these problems can cost a lot of money. Personally I wouldn’t want all the computer problems at work to fall on my shoulders simply because I know a thing or two about computers (as opposed to the rest of the staff). That’s why I feel the price we paid for Windows Vista was well worth the investment. I call it an investment since we didn’t just purchase the operating system, we purchased their dedicated support as part of the Windows Vista Small Business Assurance. I’ve learned long ago that in business it pays to focus on what you do best and don’t waste time on taking care of small problems that professionals can do in half the time.

Giving Amarok A Spin

July 21, 2008

Amarok is the music player for Linux and UNIX with an intuitive interface. It makes playing preferred music easier than it has ever been. The various small bugs in Amarok 1.4.9 have been squashed. The upcoming Amarok 2 will come with native support for the iTunes music store. Its developers have utilized a development model known as creative backwards engineering to develop a C# script while obtaining full compatibility with the iTunes music store.

Amarok can also run successfully in other environments. It is the most feature-rich multi-media player for KDE. It possesses a practical and well developed layout with an option between a single-window jukebox-like interface and a multi-window interface.
