The Linux environment appears to work well with Ekiga, a VoIP, IP Telephony and Video Conferencing application that allows users to make audio and video calls to remote users with SIP or H.323 compatible hardware and software. Formerly known as GnomeMeeting, Ekiga is considered a very robust application with a lot of maturity in it.
Off-Linux adoption for Ekiga however, remains a problem due to one particular hindrance – router bypassing. There are ongoing works that aim to overcome
this but no foolproof solution has been presented as yet. Its use is highly encouraged by the open source movement which hopes to make Ekiga the choice for users.
