Before users dump Linux to switch back to Windows when they want something done, they should be aware that there are Linux programs that can be used which can be considered equivalent or even superior to many Windows applications. There are cases wherein applications are available in Windows and Mac OS versions thereby allowing dual-booters to stay with the same set of free programs regardless of the operating system in use.
Most of these come pre-installed in popular Linux distributions or available through online software installers. Users however should check their operating system’s software repositories before downloading any application since the installation of new software is generally better through distribution packages management system rather than manual installation.
