Finding and Sharing Files

June 24, 2008

Most Linux distributors offer .ISO duo images of their wares through the BitTorrent network – Azureus. Now known as Azureus Vuze, it is used to transfer files via the BitTorrent protocol which is a mechanism for peer-to-peer file sharing. While it is easy enough for neophytes to use, it also incorporates advanced features for experts. The Azureus name came from the Latin name of poison dart frogs which was used by one co-creator as codenames for his development projects.

One of the most popular BitTorrent clients released under the GNU General Public License, Azureus is essentially free software although the parts recently added under the Vuze platform carry more restricted licensing terms. The program features detailed statistics plus a large number of user-configurable settings.
