Free Programs Come with Manuals, Don’t They?
July 16, 2008
The free operating systems does not suffer from deficiency in software but rather in the lack of good free manuals that can be included in these systems. A major gap exists when free software packages do not come with free and comprehensive manuals. Some programs would have fee manuals that cannot be understood which have better versions to be had for a cost. Proprietary manual publishers have managed to entice not a few authors to restrict their manuals to the great loss of the community.
The problem with these manuals which are available only in paper is that they do not come with permission to copy and modify unlike GNU manuals which are available in source code form. Perhaps, users can encourage commercial publishers to sell free, copylefted manuals instead of proprietary ones by specifically choosing the former.
