The Quest for Super Human Vision

March 26, 2008

The optical system that used the technology originally developed for astronomers to obtain better images of the heavens gave its research subjects an unprecedented quality of eyesight. It is even touted to dramatically improve the sight of those who have 20/20 vision. It is the result of tedious exploration efforts to enhance people’s vision beyond what is normally thought of as perfect vision.

Research works are no longer limited in trying to correct people’s vision problems and treating related diseases. The technology responsible for this system is known as adaptive optics which was used by astronomers to sharpen images from telescopes by correcting for aberrations in the atmosphere. Its use has provided remarkably crisp images and thus paved the way for exploring other possible uses.
